The Blackfeet Reservation community does have tremendous potential to improve socially and economically. It is this potential that BCDC focused on when developing its programming and services. Unlike many rural communities,
this community does not have to worry about out migration of its population. The population is increasing, indicating not only a large workforce, but a large consuming force, with a need for more local services and
goods.
The Blackfeet Reservation borders Glacier National Park, this coupled with our unique Blackfeet Culture indicates enormous potential for tourism services.
Goal & Objectives:
GOAL: Opportunities will be created to foster social improvements and economic development on the Blackfeet Reservation.
Objective A: Provide financial education and asset building information, including providing a free tax help site through Tax Help Montana.
Objective B: Provide information, training and mentoring to develop, expand and retain new or existing businesses.
Objective C: Promote public policy to enhance infrastructure for economic development.
Activity C1: Develop an Urban Renewal / Tax Increment Plan with the Town of Browning and the Blackfeet Tribe.
Activity C2: Promote and coordinate the Area Chamber of Commerce.
Objective D: A strategic plan will provide a foundation on which BCDC can facilitate the building of a viable self-sustaining community flowing with opportunity, growth, pride and independent economic stability.
Activity D1: Develop funding streams for sustainability.
Activity D2: Review, revise and develop organization policy, procedures and facilities.
Activity D3: Facilitate collaborations and partnerships with local, regional, county, state, and national organizations to bring needed resources to the community.
A major strength of BCDC is the ability to facilitate relationships with and between local, regional and state programs, groups and organizations. BCDC is able to move more effectively and efficiently than many
organizations because it is not influenced or controlled by Tribal, County, State or Federal Government.
The concept of facilitating relationships lies with the concept that our resources are limited within the Reservation and the region, if we partner our resources and efforts we will be able to adequately address
our community’s needs and have a viable self-sustaining community flowing with opportunity, growth, pride and independent economic stability.
